With the revival of demand in Western markets, India's textile exports may grow up to $24 billion in 2010-11 from an estimated $20 billion in the previous fiscal, industry and government officials have said in New Delhi.
Powerloom textile exporters in the country need to look for new markets to step up exports, which are set to increase faster in the coming days due to the introduction of newer machinery, said Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) recently.
The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) urged the Government should consider giving additional benefits to the downstream Garment & Home Textile sectors so that they can tide over the temporary crisis rather than seek imposition of a tax on exports of Cotton Yarn.

Textile industry welcomed the fixing of reasonable rates under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime on most of the items and also thanked the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for quick conclusions on the subject.
Commenting on the GST rates, A Shaktivel, Regional Chairman, Federation of Indian Exporters' Organisation (FIEO)'s Southern Region, said that the lower rates under GST across the products that have high potential of exports will go a long way in encouraging 'Make in India'.
Export of handicrafts continued to grow at the rate of 17%, though many sectors witnessed a drop in exports of Indian products to world markets, said Rashmi Verma, Textiles Secretary.

Indian apparel manufacturers are facing steep price hike and serious shortage of fabrics and urged the government to introduce some sort of control mechanism to prevent uncontrolled exports of yarn and cotton from the country.
The textile industry has divided over the government's decision to withdraw the Duty Drawback on exports of cotton yarn with different industry bodies recently giving chalk and cheese views on the issue.
The government's move to ban cotton exports is to bring down its prices and to prevent its shortage in the domestic market, said Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
